Comic Couch 65

Man-Teets.

Ooooohhhhhh.....Where to begin with this one? I think it might be best to be vague on our discussion topics and just let you find out for yourself. Wizard Top 10 Artists, Mark Millar's Marvel work, and Superman/Batman: Public Enemies were the basis of some strong discourse, to say the least.....

This week we review The Last Days of Animal Man #5 Spiderman: The Clone Saga #1, and Die Hard: Year One #1. We agreed on nothing, and Dennis wouldn't STFU.

Good Times.

Music by: The Dropkick Murphys, Rage Against The Machine, and Wall of Voodoo.

Here is the thing Matt. Hooray For Amanda. Good for her. I like her personally, and I dig her artwork. I hope this will garner her some more high profile gigs. The point was, "why she got on the list". It was commercial nepotism. Our point was if the list was truly the top 10 Hot Artists in Comics right now, Amanda's name doesn't hit that mark right now. Not with the list of people that we mentioned book's outselling PowerGirl 10 to 1, and with a hell of a lot more buzz around them. I personally don't agree with Larry's assessment of it was all about the boobs. If that was the case then Nicola Scott should have been on the top 10. Secret Six is one of DC's best selling/Buzzworhty books right now. I think if she had gotten the nod, there wouldn't have even been a discussion. This isn't the first, and I am sure it won't be the last, that Wizard has used it's influence to raise the profile of friends, and/or business associates without merit. It is shady and underhanded. I didn't want that discussion to turn into a vaudevillian bitch fest but Larry wanted it to be more shtick. It is what it is and we stand by the sentiment. Sales numbers don't lie and PowerGirl sells less then most of the Indy titles that are carried at Larry's.

Amanda Conner has been in the industry for 20 years. A great book can have low sales but still be a great book. It is the "boy's club POV" bs in the comic shop & it can be Wizard internal politics. Neither side are blameless by a long shot. Since their was no one pro-Amanada in the LCS I wanted to balance things out a bit. Everyone has different tastes of writers & artists that is fair criticism just have a balanced scale (pro) & (con). Like the show even if I disagree w/ you on this matter.

We weren't commenting on Amanda's Talent. It was an indictment of Wizard Magazines rampant financially motivated nepotism.
